River-front Photomontage

With a site that has fantastic expansive views of the Parramatta River, and access to the recreational amenity that the river offers, the client wanted to capitalise on the large portion of undeveloped land on their property under existing separate title.

Artist's Impression

The carefully considered design is a well balanced contemporary           2-storey home designed to respond to the site's steeply sloping topography by creating terraced

mezzanine levels that define significant spaces. The entry approach from the street is via a winter  garden        with a cascading fountain  that follows the path to and ends with a pond at the house entry. This pond links to another pond at the kitchen/dining  level which provides a focal point, as well as passive cooling to the adjacent spaces. The visual and physical connection to the water elements at the front of the house alludes to the riverscape at the rear.  The design sits comfortably in it's river-front setting amongst heritage listed buildings.

New Build: Small Townhouse Development - Inner West

BNH-rear.jpg

This small laneway development is a result of the creation of a new lot at the rear of two existing properties.

The development consist of 3 modern minimalist townhouses with attached carports accessed via the laneway. Entry into each townhouse is via a private walkway from the main street.

On a small tight site where orientation and the building footprint are pre-determined by existing site constraints and Council controls, the double height volume in the open plan living, kitchen and dining area allows for an abundance of natural light and ventilation creating a great sense of space.

Alterations + Additions: First Floor Addition + Rear Extension - Inner West

Conversion of an old single-storey austere worker's cottage into a contemporary 2-storey residence full of character and old world charm but with the benefit of modern conveniences.

The new covered rear deck provides shelter and shade for outdoor entertaining year round. Large bifold doors open up to allow the indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces to merge. A new outdoor kitchen, complete with built-in bbq, rangehood and sink, is designed to be an extension of the new indoor kitchen, and both becomes one when the bifold doors are fully opened.

The location, size, proportion and details of the gable roofs are critical to the successful integration of the first floor addition and ground floor rear extension to achieve a harmonious built form with great street presence.

Bathroom Renovation - Lower Northshore

Bath1_view 4.JPG
Bath 1_view 1.JPG
Bath1_view night 1.JPG

The existing main bathroom was stripped of all finishes                   leaving only the ceiling and skylight. The existing floor                    structure is a suspended concrete floor with reasonable                  access to the underside which presented a feasible                         opportunity to explore new layouts.

The design is a fresh and modern upgrade that exudes a sense of minimalist elegance, featuring large format natural marble floor and wall tiles, custom 'floating' vanity with warm timber tones, stone top and brass tapware in 'rose gold' finish. The feature organic and asymmetrically shaped counter top basin, goose-neck curve of the shower rail and generally round tapware and accessories, add softness to the space. All elements work well together to achieve a harmonious and well balance space that is visually appealing and practical.

In addition, the varying daylight and sunlight that filters through the space via the existing skylight complements the beautiful veins in the marble tiles. The ambience of the space changes throughout the day. At night, the addition of warm LED strip lights to the underside of the mirror cabinet and vanity adds another dimension to the bathroom space and experience.

Bathroom/Laundry Renovation - Lower Northshore

Bath2_view 1b.JPG

The existing bathroom/laundry space was originally a laundry with access to the drying area in the rear garden. The addition of the shower and toilet was a makeshift attempt to provide a second bathroom. Improving the practicality, functionality and privacy of the bathroom/laundry space was paramount. The first critical design execution was to relocate the door access to the rear garden to the sunroom adjacent so that access to the rear garden is no longer through the bathroom/laundry space. This created a destination space with an identity.

The renovated bathroom/laundry features large format natural limestone floor and wall tiles and a cylindrical wall-hung basin with brass tapware in 'statue bronze' finish to complement the tiles.

The newly improved space is tight but with careful design considerations, a contemporary minimalist bathroom is achieved, with the laundry space hidden behind bifold doors that integrate seamlessly into the bathroom space with the handles serving as towel rails.

The final design makes use of every inch of space to achieve a modern fully functional bathroom and laundry space, with each space given it's own identity with the simple use of a bifold door.
